Early-bird registration for this spectacular convention is just $85 and ends Saturday, August 15—just seven days from today. Take advantage of the savings of $20 from the regular rate of $105. If you haven’t already registered for this fabulous convention, complete the attached convention registration form now and mail it along with your check to Philip & Lori Cain, Tea Leaf Annual Convention, 747 W. Maple Street, Cayuga, IN 47928. A registration form can be downloaded below.

This celebration is sure to be one of TLCI’s best conventions ever and the very first in Michigan. To introduce Tea Leafers to the Great Lakes State, Dick and Janet Switzer of Galesburg, Michigan, have arranged the Thursday and Friday pre-convention activities. Thursday they’ll host “An Evening with the Switzers”. We’ll visit the Galesburg History Museum, which has a full set of Meakin Bamboo tea leaf, partake of a wonderful sandwich and salad buffet, and tour Dick and Janet’s home, where we’ll be treated to dessert and their fabulous collections, one of which is tea leaf. We’ll have a full day on Friday as we tour the Fort Custer National Cemetery, W. K. Kellogg Manor House where we will also enjoy lunch, the Gilmore Car Museum, and the National Miniatures Trust Museum.

Onward to the convention! Upon returning from the tour, meet old friends and new members in the Hospitality Room. First Timers will have their own meeting too. Friday evening activities include two programs—“Tea Leaf Trivia” and “A 30-Year Auction Retrospective”—as well as a Tops and Bottoms Market, Celebration Tablescapes, and a photo shoot of the Copper Lustre Club and charter members.

Saturday morning brush up on your tea leaf knowledge by attending “Tea Leaf 101”. The Auction Preview will follow and the Auction will officially begin at 10 a.m. We’ll take a break for the Regional Luncheon and then continue with the Auction until all 355 lots have been sold. A four-page glimpse of many of the auction lots was included with the summer issue of Readings; look for a full catalog at www.tealeafclub.com on September 1. The prelude to our Saturday evening banquet will include the annual business meeting and election of officers and board members. Recognition awards and an educational presentation will follow the banquet.

The convention will close Sunday morning with a phenomenal Tea Leaf Show and Sale—a perfect way to end a fantastic weekend!

A few words about the Tea Leaf Club International...

The Tea Leaf Club is dedicated to the study and collection of  Tea Leaf Ironstone China and its Variants, produced in England and America from the mid-19th century through the early 1900s.

Beginning in the 1840's, English potters began to ship white ironstone ceramic ware to the U.S., decorated with lustre bands and/or simple motifs, made exclusively for the American market.  Anthony Shaw is considered to have produced the original Tea Leaf motif on his Sydenham, Niagara Fan and Chinese Shape body styles, registered in 1856.  These are the first of over 150 body styles decorated with the Tea Leaf motif by dozens of English and American potters.  These talented potters continued to furnish this beautiful copper lustre decorated white ironstone to the Americas until the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1980, some 130 years after its American introduction, a group of Tea Leaf collectors from ten states gathered in Springfield, Illinois to formally organize the Tea Leaf Club International -- hundreds of Club members now span almost every state in the US, as well as members in Canada. TLCI is made up of people who collect, study and love Tea Leaf Ironstone China we lovingly call ourselves members of the Tea Leaf Family!
