About the Tea Leaf Club International...
The Tea Leaf Club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the study and collection of Tea Leaf Ironstone China and its Variants, produced in England and America from the mid-19th century through the early 1900s.
Beginning in the 1840's, English potters began to ship white ironstone ceramic ware to the U.S., decorated with copper lustre bands and/or simple motifs, made exclusively for the American market. Anthony Shaw is considered to have produced the original Tea Leaf motif on his Sydenham, Niagara Fan and Chinese Shape body styles, registered in 1856. These are the first of over 150 body styles decorated with the Tea Leaf motif by dozens of English and American potters. These talented potters continued to furnish this beautiful copper lustre decorated white ironstone to the Americas until the beginning of the 20th century.
In 1980, some 130 years after its American introduction, a group of Tea Leaf collectors from ten states gathered in Springfield, Illinois to formally organize the Tea Leaf Club International -- hundreds of Club members now span almost every state in the US, as well as members in Canada. TLCI is made up of people who collect, study and love Tea Leaf Ironstone China we lovingly call ourselves members of the Tea Leaf Family.

Annalea Robeson, Convention Chair
We will be Back Home Again in Indiana for the 2010 Tea Leaf Club International convention. It is set for September 9-12 at the Indianapolis Marriott East hotel. The pre-convention activities will start Thursday evening with an open house and picnic at the home of Annalea Robeson in Broad Ripple. There will be time to tour the home, have some bar-b-que, and catch up with Tea Leaf friends.
The Friday tour will offer two great Indianapolis destinations, the home of President Benjamin Harrison and the Hall of Fame Museum at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Both locations are handicap accessible.
The Benjamin Harrison home is a sixteen room Italianate Victorian house built in 1874-75. Walk through the home and learn about the 23rd President of the United States. There is also a special exhibit about Harrison's 10,000 mile train trip as well as other presidential train journeys.
Indianapolis is known worldwide for racing. The Hall of Fame Museum at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is recognized as one of the most highly visible museums in the world devoted to automobiles and auto racing. Approximately 75 vehicles are on display at all times.
Friday night opening offers many events. First, the In-laws & Outlaws sale gives the opportunity to sell and to buy Tea Leaf and Tea Leaf decorated items valued up to $50. Next, check out the Black Sheep of the Family display and learn how to use your less-than-perfect pieces. Also, the grab bag is back this year. Donate $2 to the Tea Leaf Education fund and pick your bag with a surprise Tea Leaf item inside. As always, check out the Giftique for all those Tea Leaf related goodies, especially the new denim shirts. Get a preview of our new CD compilation of 30 years of Tea Leaf Readings. Then get introduced to the Tea Leaf's Kissin' Cousins-Tea Leaf variants. Kissin' Cousins-Meet the Kin will be the first of a two-part education program.
Saturday brings the annual auction with all those fabulous pieces of Tea Leaf. Watch for the auction catalog coming soon to the web site. The Regional luncheon gives attendees the opportunity to meet with others from the same geographical region and to make plans for a regional gathering in the upcoming year. Saturday evening brings the annual meeting, the banquet, and the second part of the educational program, Kissin' Cousins-The Family Album.
The convention wraps up Sunday with the Tea Leaf table sales. Wander a sea of Tea Leaf and purchase a special item-or maybe more than one!
The weekend will be packed with great events, great education, and great conversation. Reserve your hotel room now at the Indianapolis Marriott East, 7202 East 21st Street. Call toll-free 1-800-228-9290 or reserve online at www.marriott.com. Be sure to ask for the $79 Tea Leaf Club room rate. The number of rooms at this rate is limited, so reserve your room early.
